    • Every Action glitches – partners also used it so some folks got double emails
    • FB Live had rocky start
  • Elmer
    • Had a big push for design
    • Procrastinated some
    • Could have focused more on the next step
    • Researched information and came up with creative ways to share the information
    • Could benefit from being more organized, setting deadlines
  • Renee
    • Pluses
      • Followed the actions daily
      • I challenged myself to try new social media formats! Not sure how if feel about twitter
    • Deltas
      • Played catch up getting things implemented
      • Disappointed people she emailed mostly didn’t want to participate
  • Christal
    • Pluses
      • Feel good about speaking on a panel in front of audience!
      • Followed through on my commitments
      • Overall went
    • Deltas
      • Got nervous and froze a bit
      • Could have prepared better, developed an outline.
      • Left it to attorney to speak more but I could have valued my  own voice and perspective more
  • What worked well?
    • Christal – engagement with each other on the panel. Everyone complemented appreciated each other. Point came across strong. Family watched and said they learned. Strong points. Great team
    • Peggy – amazing teamwork! Many compliments on Elmer’s graphics! Elmer produced lots of great stuff.ACLU compliments. Lots of good participation. Got the word out about how to participate. Asked people to get back to us about how they participated.
    • Elmer – Lots of communications went well, pushed out the agendas daily. Webinar went well for short notice. Had slides. Created lots of content that we can use for next time.
    • Renee – Raised awareness with my people even if they didn’t all agree on what we were doing or how that should look. Still resulted in many good 1-1 conversations with people about the situation. Point was to raise awareness. People now sending me articles, paying attention now to what they had been ignoring.
  • What could we have done better?
    • CA: Tech issues. Needed to troubleshoot FB live
    • Peggy – tracking. More prep needed.
    • Elmer – More advanced notice could have helped. Very fast quick action we jumped into. Could have tracked better, needed more advanced notice and prep to track engagement. Lacked access to some info needed.
    • Renee – Wish I could have participated more in the planning and measuring.
  • What are my key takeaways?
    • CA: Unsure how we could have done it better.
    • Peggy – Don’t rely on information from others too much if they might hold back.
    • Elmer – need to prepare more, understand roles, cross monitor each other. Learned a lot doing this in just one week!
    • Renee – more planning and participation in planning
  • List/Discuss challenges (11:25-11:40) 15 min
    • Preparation + prep
      • Do registration
      • Create content that can be used for later actions and events. “evergreen” content.
      • Write summaries after actions so we can look back and make sure we learn from events and have templates/checklists for the future. Make it easier for everyone to take on roles and tasks.
      • Template/checklist for events and how to do a webinar.
      • Sarah thought maybe there were too many people on the zoom call which may have impacted the tech.
      • Share the responsibilities with team members.
      • Elmer took on the lion’s share – he’s the MVP!
      • Engage participants earlier on.
      • Could have engaged Christal earlier on, gotten her the questions.
      • Need more prep time 1-1s with panelists, not the same day.
      • Make sure that the people we’re communicating with understand what we’re expecting of them. Ask people to recap what they understand as the expectations.
      • Terminology might be confusing. Ask people if they are clear about all the terms, questions. Need to give advanced notice.
      • Review FICPFM remote organizing guide
    • Tech problems in webinar
    • Needed zoom link from Brit, didn’t get it until very late in order to give panel participants the details. Ended up reaching out to people late.
    • Info we were getting came in late. Need to PUT A DEADLINE on things we expect from others. Sponsor jumped in at the last minute. Be clear about what we expect from others and when we need it by.
    • Need to break down the vocab. Sometimes Christal was not clear about the vocab and terms. Sometimes unclear about the questions. Having Elmer to prepare with was very helpful.
    • Christal had never done a bio, wasn’t clear about how to do it. Felt daunting. Peggy saved the day by preparing a bio for Christal. Elmer helped create a bio. Breaking down the expectations ahead of time and how to do those things can help. Peggy condensed info that Christal provided.

Next Steps

  • Peggy – David from WISDOM asked Peggy what’s next. Peggy said we can do things regularly. David wants to push on revocation. Powers that be are not using powers to release people on revocation. Jails inundated with covid cases. Zoom call and an action on revocation next week. This week is prep. Got confirmation from WI state public defender that she will join the zoom. Will talk with her.
  • Elmer – maybe change roles but it might be difficult. Rotate roles. Train the trainers.
  • Christal – find ways for each team member to have clear roles and understanding of expectations for each role and task. Share roles. Be receptive to trying new roles even if nervous. Get better at speaking effectively with people. How to get people past stage fright and nervousness, how to support each other to be more confident public speakers.
  • Renee – agree with the idea of everyone sharing roles and participating.
  • Jeff – what’s the team’s purpose?
  • Elmer – I still believe in researching the power structure. Covid has thrown a wrench in things. Can we meet in the middle between research and taking action? Maybe we can give that opportunity for action to another team to take on. EXPO seems appreciative of what we did. If we want to return to research that’s also important.
  • Peggy – was meeting w Elmer almost daily last week. Lots of work.
  • Connect 1-1 this week to talk this through and clarify the team purpose and direction
