Check Ins:

  • Elmer – grateful for the week of action. Exciting project. Would like to see great results come out of it. Hoping for the best. This stuff geeks me out.
  • Renee – also grateful for week of action. Grateful for all the resiliency I’ve been seeing in people trying to bounce back in many ways – health and mental health. Using this time for good and empowering ourselves.
  • Jeff – grateful for week of action, partner, and dog.
  • Peggy – grateful for all of you and your help, guidance, assistance. Nice to feel like you’re not alone and there are people you can rely on to get things done. Grateful to spend more time at home. Now have a new appreciation for being home and people here. Nice to have grandson around.

Agenda/Updates/Discussion

  • Peggy – ACLU had filed a lawsuit against governor that went to supreme court. Class action asking to release people who are elderly and infirm, compromised immune systems. Lawsuit was thrown out. Today is medical monday as week of action – seems timely. Included that in message asking people to participate today. Just because court threw it out doesn’t mean governor doesn’t still have authority to release people. Governor is noncommittal in terms of what he’s willing to do.
    • Gov said he’s committed to keeping numbers where they are after this is over. MSDF has decarcerated, lower than capacity for first time. People still testing positive there.
    • Governor seemed open to talking about how the public can help provide PPE to loved ones on the inside. If sending gloves he can either destroy them or send them home. New option for him to donate to the facility so facility can use them as they see fit getting gloves where they need to go to keep everyone safe. He seemed open to that. Was under the impression that everyone wears masks. Got an update that more people have masks now.
  • Elmer – Aware that they dropped the bad news on Friday about court ruling. That’s why we’re doing this. Thanks for sending memes for Elmer to modify and prepare. Tried consolidating everything so it’s updated and available for everyone. 2-4 places where trying to update w lates updates and info.
    • Still working with the team on the webinar. Making side meetings to get that squared away. May need support for zoom meeting. Only dumb question is the one not asked.
    • Still struggling with a non-tech savvy client.
  • Renee – fever broke. Been reaching out through email and FB trying to get people to support the week of action. Hopeful Jermaine Read may come on board and at least send a message to governor.
    • Joined twitter and got sidewalk chalk to prepare for week of action.
  • Christal – Focused on week of action. Working w Elmer and Peggy. Spreading information out. Many FB invites. Trying to get email addresses of friends and fam who might be interested. Got some good responses about people tuning in. Finished bio. I appreciate this team and enjoy being part of this.
  • Peggy
    • Did 2 sessions to educate people on maximum participation. First w organizations – did that quickly. Was already being spread around last night.
    • Did 2 sessions to educate people on maximum participation. First w organizations – did that quickly. Was already being spread around last night.
    • Brittany from EXPO Madison has access to EXPO zoom account. She walked them through everything. Friday got approached by ACLU. They had been doing weekly webinars. CZI group usually does webinars Tues night. ACLU does webianrs Wed night. They are cosponsoring our webinar. Sharing Christal’s email for folks who have questions.
    • Heard back from some people already saying they’ve contacted the governor. We want to know about his response too.
  • Renee – friend suggested looking into the state attorney general to see if AG can help get people released or pressure the governor.
    • Elmer – sounds like a good idea. AG can give opinions and get suggestions on interpreting the law. Need to research what exactly he can do. How to get him on board with our plan?
    • Peggy – can’t hurt. Don’t know about specific powers that AG gas, good to have him on your side. Too late for this week. Been talking about how to keep days of action going all month. Elmer has a great graphic that can be used to focus on treatments for incarcerated people. Maybe AG can be pressured to push the governor.
  • Christal – need to shift the focus to people on the inside. Media keeps focusing on folks on the outside. Our resposnibility is to keep everyone informed in an honest way.
  • Discussion 11:30-11:50 (10 min): Where to focus for this week?
